Coaching Target Sports within Canada.
Interested in learning how to coach the shooting sports or in training to upgrade your coaching skills?
Coaching is a great way to provide a positive experience for others, yourself and to the shooting sports in general. Coaches also provide many benefits to their communities as teachers, mentors, role models, friends and leaders. And coaches are a key component in all sports by helping to train all participants from beginners to Olympians and everyone in between.
In 1974, the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) and its partners developed the National Coach Certification Program (NCCP), the recognized national standard for coach training and certification. The Shooting Federation of Canada (SFC) has worked in collaboration with the CAC since the inception of the NCCP to develop and deliver quality programs for target shooting coaches across Canada.
Although the focus of the NCCP was on developing competent coaches and equipping them with the tools they needed to become successful sport leaders, the program itself has undergone a number of changes and a shift of emphasis from “what a coach knows” to “what a coach can do.” This transformation to a competency/outcomes-based approach has been a key factor in the re-development of SFC programming that is currently underway.
To find a multi-sport or Theory workshop in your region, contact your Provincial/Territorial Coaching Coordinator through the CAC. For sport-specific, Technical or Practical workshops in your community, contact your provincial/territorial organization or the Shooting Federation of Canada.
