Owning Firearms
Rimfire/Centerfire Firearms
All firearms are regulated in Canada, including those used in various ISSF disciplines. For example, the Rapid Fire Pistol event uses .22 caliber rimfire cartridges, while the ISSF 25m Center-Fire Pistol event allows pistols chambered in calibers ranging from 7.62 mm to 9.65 mm. Special regulations apply to the transportation and storage of firearms. For the most accurate and up-to-date information on firearm ownership in Canada, visit the Canadian Firearms Program website.
Owning Air Rifles/Pistols
Certain ISSF disciplines use air pistols or air rifles, which are typically not considered firearms and do not require a license. As a result, they are generally unregulated. However, there are exceptions. To stay informed about current regulations, consult federal laws regarding firearms and check your local municipality’s rules on their use.
